The roots of cold storage technology extend to the ice industry, which had developed to the top about a hundred years ago. This branch of industry was started in autumn by clearing the ice on lakes and rivers out of snow. Harvesting was carried out by sawing the ice into cubes, which were stored into special ice stores. From there the ice was transferred to distribution spots, from which the consumers fetched their pieces of ice. The system was needed to produce ice to refrigerators of that time. The refrigerators were heat insulated and the ice kept the grub cool.

Mechanical cold technology originated in the middle of the 1900th century. This radical innovation replaced the technology based on ice, which was the beginning of the end of ice industry.
In Europe the generalization of refrigerating machines dates to the years 1884 – 1885 owing to the mild winters. In sports the first artificial ice track was made in Chelsea in 1876 with the cold substance being sulphur dioxide. It is said about sulphur dioxide that the smell wakes even the dead.

The product development work in refrigerating technology has been innovative and the control of the whole technology chain in the food production industry is most crucial.
Today this branch of industry serves the food production industry up to the industrial processes. Also the hockey fans enjoy over their “tv” the development of this industrial branch.

UKITIG / UKITECH is involved in manufacturing the piping for this industrial line and in equipment installations. As projects we may mention the piping in the ice machine room of Hartwall Areena, and cooling projects in office premises and in data communication centres.
